Departure and Arrival Procedure VRMM

Due to the fact, that there is no radar coverage in the Maldivian Airspace, the air traffic controller have to draw on procedure control. Therefore it is mandatory to make oneself familiar with the arrival and departure procedures at Malé International Airport.

Important:
Each pilot has to advise the air traffic controller 10nm or 2000ft before reaching a clearance limit!


Departure



... via SID

In most cases you will get a Standard Instrument Departure unless your aircraft is not equipped with the supporting instruments.
Departure fixes are: ATISA ; AQAXA ; DOPDO; ESKOL; GOKAM; LELEM; MUGBA
-> Each IFR flightplan should be filed with one of those departure fixes.

... via vectored departure

Each pilot, who is not able to fly a Standard Instrument Departure for any reasons, has to request a vectored departure within the initial call.
The normal procedure should be the following:
Climb on RWY heading to 11000ft, turn left/right to *departure fix* when passing 10000ft or 10nm outbound MLE (114.7), which ever is later.


Arrival

STAR

In most cases you will get a Standard Teminal Arrival Route unless your aircraft is not equipped with the supporting instruments.
Arrival fixes are: ATISA ; AQAXA ; DOPDO; ESKOL; GOKAM; LELEM; MUGBA
-> Each IFR flightplan should be filed with one of those arrival fixes.

... via vectored arrival

Each pilot, who is not able to fly a Standard Teminal Arrival Route for any reasons, has to request a vectored arrival within the initial call.
The normal procedure should be the following: After *arrival fix* maintain present heading until 12nm inbound MLE (114.7). Thereafter expect vectors to the final approach.


Approach


The standard landing and departure runway direction is 360.

IFR flights can expect an ILS approach runway 36.
Even in some cases you will get a VOR-DME approach or an NBD approach, especially when runway 18 is active.

Furthermore you can also perform a visual approach with a request within the initial call.
